Sony has gotten rid of the need to use specific software with its players, rather you have many options. This includes Windows Media Player, MediaMonkey, Content Transfer (which works separately and also works with iTunes), Media Go, and drag-and-drop.

I use MediaMonkey (MM) with my player and it works fairly well with both the player and with my music. Returning to the topic of this thread, it works well with podcasts. As I mentioned above, I use the genre tag to identify my podcasts, rather than putting them in their own folder, and it works perfectly.

As far as organizing the files on your player, it is possible to configure MM to arrange the files on your computer and on your player the way you want, including putting podcasts in their own folder on your player. For example, I have my music library arranged in folders as follows: <The First Letter of the Name of the Album Artist> / <Album Artist> / <Album> / <Song's Name>.
