Default Archos 605 Wifi Or Nokia N800 To Replace Laptop?

I have recently sold my old laptop and would like purchase either a Archos 605 wifi or a nokia n800 internet tablet to replace it.

I realise that neither of those would fully replace a laptop but i just want something handheld with a bigger screen than my G1 Phone and full internet like flash support.

Also to watch the odd episode of family guy on

I know that they are 2 different things but my primary needs are:

Good Internet Browsing
Watching Episodes of Family Guy etc lol
Msn Messenger
Facebook
Photo Viewer
Good Battery Life
Good Build Quality

Which would you go for ?

Like you, I would also like to downsize from a laptop to even smaller than a notebook.
I've looked at both of what you mention, but I'm holding off until the Archos 9 becomes available. I'm not totally comfortable with the operating systems used by either the Archos 605 or the Nokia N800.

With a 9" screen and running Windows 7, the Archos 9 "should" be a full function tablet in a compact size.

But the jury is still out on the build quality of Archos products, so I'm not ready to jump on that wagon just yet.

Uh, I dont see the point of switching to a full touch screen device from a G1?

I basically use Android on my N810 :P

That said I would go for the N800 over the Archos, unless you wanted to have a PMP first, then a tablet. I mean you can easily convert videos for the device, but its not the best thing to play them off of. However with Android installed its a pretty solid device to do everything else you mentioned. Without it its pretty much only good for internet related stuff, which was my primary need with it.

Have you looked at MID's? (i think thats what they're called). I've seen them around on Gizmodo, and they're just slightly bigger than my entire hand and can run Windows XP or even Vista.

The one in particular that I've seen is the Viliv one...don't know the price though.

Id wait a couple months until windows 7 comes out. They are putting that into some new Archos lines, and smaller netbooks, and mid's. That will be a big improvement for the portable net market when 7 comes out because you will be able to run a basically full, up to date(not 5 yr old xp) on a lot of smaller less powerful devices.

go on pocketables and have a look at the devices on there. n810 is a great device, and it has the qwerty keyboard which would come in really handy for browsing and msn etc.
