In my research of the S9, I've found some sources that state each folder can have a maximum of 256 files. Is this true? Or can I get around that by creating multiple subfolders, each with 256 files? My only goal is to be able to play randomly from all my folders, or from one folder. I organize by genre, not byartists. For example, here's how I'd like to set everything up:
1. New Music 2. Dance 3. Hip-Hop 4. Pop 5. Rock --Inside this, have Rock A-L & Rock M-Z since there's more than 256 files. 6. Classic Rock Will I then be able to play randomly from both subfolders in the '5. Rock' folder? Thanks for the help!

256 files are the maximum for playlist, I don't think this limitation is for folder.

In fact I'm pretty sure of that.
Because you have a folder named Music, many people drag/drop their files without arranging in folder or subfolder. The general limitation is far above 5000 files. |

yeah 256 files is the limit for favorites/claw's playlist.
folders are just.. folders. so you can throw in as many files as you want. :P |

I think I read somewhere about the limits on S9, they are there but quite high. Like D2 for example has a 500 folder limit & each folder can have a maximum of 5000 files. S9 has a higher limit than this, somewhere around 8000 files I think.

Actually, since the device is FAT32 formatted the theoretical maximum would be 65,534. Since that is the maximum number of files (and/or subfolders) FAT32 supports per folder.

gogos9,
I'm trying to figure out the exact same thing on my new S9. This was easy on the X5.. just press in on the joystick and select "Play now" with any folder selected. The best part of this feature is that you could select a folder with any number of subfolders inside it, and as long as you had the boundary set to subfolder, it would play everything in the main folder. From what I can tell, this feature is not available on the s9... which is outrageous since the "play now" option was the best part of the X5. I think cowon should throw out the delete function from the music section menu and add a simple "play folder" option. |

It's pretty easy, the instructions are in the manual. I wish they'd have a few words instead of icons to represent one folder vs. all, but that's a minor complaint.
