I dont even have a Zune yet, but I've always been a fan of custom EQs. You can create the balance you want, not just what comes with the song.

Agreed! I'm looking at a Zune for my next player, and Custom EQ is one of the deal breakers. Microsoft, don't fail me now. Everything else about your player is almost perfect, IMO, let's bring it to the next level with EQ.

I gotta agree with this too. Even if the current Zune's SQ is as good as I hear, not every headphone will have the right balance of sound.....that, to me, is where the custom EQ comes into play, to accomodate different headphones' strengths and weaknesses. A DAP without a customizable EQ is an epic fail IMO.
Not to mention, iPuds don't have custom EQ, so Zune should definitely add one!

I agree with this 100 percent. Custom EQ is the way to go.
What you might want to do is to start an Online Petition so it can be signed and delivered to Microsoft.

The only thing that has been keeping my from getting a Zune is the lack of an equalizer. Even pre-defined is okay, but custom would be better.

I think most players have bad quality when there is no equalizer. Even my Cowon S9 is bad without the equalizer.

There is a huge thread at www.zune.net about this issue since 2007. People want their EQ! Period.

I feel a custom EQ is a must. There are many headphones and players with unique sound signatures. Because of this, the sound may need to be tweaked in order to make the sound perfect (or near perfect) for one's tastes. For example, some headphones are bass shy, some are too bass heavy, some are treble shy, etc. Now a neutral player like wouldn't fix this (it can possibly make it worse). All people would indeed sacrifice some battery life for optimal sound, just as long as the audio battery life stays above say 20hrs. Im sure some will even be satisfied with at least 15hr of battery life just as long as the sound is nothing short of stellar.

If you do a poll of a zune with
1. 30+ hr battery life with ok sq
vs.
2. 20+hr battery life with awesome stellar sound (possibly the best ever).

Im sure 100% of all people with quality headphones (people who care for sq) would vote for 1.

a touch screen and a custom EQ are the first two requirements for any MP3 player... one down, one to go...

To be honest I thought that a custom EQ was no big deal until I Rockboxed a Clip. Even in its current unstable form the addition of a custom EQ added so much to the all ready good SQ of the Clip it let me hear what a EQ can do in a good player.

It turned a good player into AWESOME. I can only imagine what a custom EQ would do to a Zune.

Signed.
