Default Text Message Alert

I know the P2 can stop playing music and give you an alert for an incoming phone call when paired with a phone, but can/does it also give an alert when there is a new text message?

Not possible. Even if the P2 could support it, no current phone supports the feature. Sorry

Actually it's very different, because it means having a different bluetooth profile. So not only would they have to add that extra profile into the spec, then add it to support for the P2, but then every phone that wants to use it would also have to have a firmware update to be able to send that information to the P2.

Possible, but entirely unlikely.

Aw... I wanted to text with my P2... that would make it so much more convenient, never having to pull my ugly phone out again... =(

Well, to clarify, some phones send system sounds to hands-free devices (not all phones mind you) so keypad and alert tones might end up being sent to the P2.

Sassafras, mabey they could start to intergrate the profiles in to the new phones coming out, so in about 5 years time most people will have a phone with a text messaging profile. And the P2 can get a new bluewave with one new update.

but i wonder if the p2 will still be around in 5 years (with all the technology development going on) someone's bound to invent some other multifunction device... maybe getting rid of all mp3 players

Samsung's mp3 players seem to be on a 1 to 1.5 year development cycle. I would expect the announcement of a sucessor in August or September with it hitting the stores around October or November.

Do you really think that Samsung is going to sink money into a device that is that old? They make money selling players and not firmware so by then I'm sure they would have moved on to something newer.

That would be nice. With some phones, you can hear a blip or nothing at all

Agree totally. I'm using Sony Ericsson's K850i and realized that the text and keytones aren't sent to the P2. But my ASUS P750 sends tones of all nature to it.
