Is there a DRAM chip in there for buffering duties? If not, and there's a dedicated physical area of flash memory for buffering it seems like that would get way more use than the rest of the flash.
I remember seeing detailed photos of the insides of the m2xx and included descriptions of the innards, I think here. Are they still available. |

DRAM. Buffering to flash makes no sense, you could just stream from flash if you didn't have enough DRAM and it would be faster and use less power.

The V4 is basically just a Clip inside, so theres already a semi-working rockbox firmware for that.
The V2 is TCC I think, and theres a lot of work done for it but no one currently working on it. Since its so old and less attractive to most people then the clip, I wouldn't expect anyone to pick it up and finish it but you never know. |
