Default Sony X-1000 "Touch" questions

1. why different release dates for...Amazon & Play.com?

2. will the FM radio support RDS? and how many preset stations?

3. will it support apps like that of the ipod & the iphone 3G? any calculator or dictionary or world clock atleast?

4. can you use (other than the provided CD software and Windows Media Player) 3rd-party software in transferring mp3, photos and video files?

5. how often will the firmware update will be? and will Sony ever listen to loyal users and fans for sugestions?

1. Each store has at least one buyer who decides what they will sell. The buyer and owners get to decide when the best time to sell a device is, and it can be any time after the device is available from the manufacturer. For the longest time the BestBuy stores only sold the 4gb version of the Samsung P2 while you could get the 8gb version from Amazon. Different buyers.

4. If WMP can sync to it, you can likely just copy and paste (or drag and drop) on a Window's PC to it.

5. No way to tell. It may be taking so long to get here because they are trying to make it perfect before releasing it.

The rest will be determined in the near future.

1. why different release dates for...Amazon & Play.com?

Because that's when Sony has agreed to provide the stock for sale to the public.

2. will the FM radio support RDS? and how many preset stations?

Not too sure about this, as the product specs don't provide the information.

3. will it support apps like that of the ipod & the iphone 3G? any calculator or dictionary or world clock atleast?

Nothing extra listed, and Sony isn't known for extras like that on their players

4. can you use (other than the provided CD software and Windows Media Player) 3rd-party software in transferring mp3, photos and video files?

All the new NWZ players allow either drag and drop, or syncing w/your favorite media management software (WinAmp, J.River, Media Monkey, etc).

5. how often will the firmware update will be? and will Sony ever listen to loyal users and fans for sugestions?Sony rarely, if ever updates their firmware, unless a problem is noted w/the current 1. They try to release complete players For the most part they're pretty good w/the the final release./quote]

Heres a link to the specs as released on the Sony Style Kong Kong site, as it's all we have ATM: http://www.sonystyle.com.hk/ss/produ...wz_x1060_e.jsp

Look at this:
Windows Media Video 9 Media file format: ASF
File extension: .wmv
Profile: VC1 simple profile, main profile
Bit rate: Simple: max. 1700 kbps,
Main: max. 5000 kbps
Frame rate: up to 30 fps
Resolution: Simple: up to 480 x 270,
Main: up to QVGA (320 x 240)

So does this mean that the Sony can play video resolution up its max screen resolution but only with WMV?

And would the noise cancellation feature work with any headphones?

Noise cancelation is said to be onboard, and should work with any headphone (but will vary depending on the quality of those headphones). All those specs mean is that the Sony will play a 480 x 270 wmv video. It doesn't say if it downsizes it to 320 x 240 internally though.

Face it, we're all confused as to what the player will actually do. It'll take 1 of us getting it to let the others know. I may be the first BTW, since I want the volume leveling feature, plus the great FM tuner myself. I love Cowon, and the P3 may still be an option. But, I'm slowly thinking of getting this instead for those 2 great features alone.

With regards to the release date issue. I just assumed that play had it wrong. I'm thinking that because sony style's site has the shipping date as end-may which is more consistent with amazons release date than plays.

We have no insider info, so it'll get to your country when Sony decides to release it.

PS: Welcome to ABI>>>!!!

Default re: Sony Walkman X-1000 question

i have two questions:

1. does the X-series Walkman allow you to manage/sort out playlist and songs of your choice i.e. adding songs to a particular song to a playlist using the player itself and not thru any program like Windows, etc.

2. will you be able to download applications to it?
