I like to keep it simple:
  1. Rockbox
  2. XMPlay
  3. Mp3tag

If at all, I usually just use Rockbox itself to make playlists.

I use Rockbox to make my playlists. That's my favorite feature of rockbox.

I use two different methods. I use the file browser to create a huge list of all files called 'all' or I'll do a list of all rock songs called 'rock'... and then just save them.

My other method is to create lists like favs, other, misc, rock, etc. in the playlist catalog. All these start out as empty playlists. Then I load up the 'all' and listen or scroll through the list and when I find a song that I want to add to a catalog list (say 'misc'), I use the context menu/Playlist Catalog/Add To Playlist to add the song.

These lists just keep growing. Then I'll combine the lists to make a big list. For example I'll load misc, then 'insert shuffled' rock, other and favs to create big playlist of songs I've previously picked.

Sorry for the long winded explanation, but this method works great for me.

Pick the songs or cds you want to make into a playlist. Point the program to your player/playlist directory. Then hit create playlists. There are options or settings to help do exactly what you want to customize. Hope this helps

I second the oddgravity playlist creator. Especially like the ability to create playlists out of playlists feature. Second favorite tool after MP3tag.
