Hmmm... quite a while ago (not even sure if it was here or on rockbox.org) there was a thread about USB support with somebody saying something about this problem with the sd card driver implying that it was one thing still to fix before the USB functionality was complete. When the bug happened to me i immediately recalled that thread, so i'd assumed it was a known issue, and didnt even check the buglist.

Guess i was wrong. I can't do it from here but when i get a chance i will have a look and submit one if there's not one already there.

No, by this point there's now a bug report, with a patch that may fix it. This is the kind of thing that happens once things actually get reported.

The thing that has been holding USB back for ages was a completely different issue, when you were thinking about whatever thread it was either one where someone told you the wrong thing holding USB back, or you misunderstood what was being discussed there.

If you have a problem, never assume it is known about by the developers. Even if you see one of them talking in a thread about it, or talking about it specifically, unless you yourself have seen the flyspray task (or at least been clearly told there is one). A single developer knowing about a problem is still unlikely to help in many cases, since most developers only know a portion of the overall code (it's not a small project).

Aware of that, and didnt mean to imply otherwise, IIRC the original converation was regarding copying files to microsd via USB, and it was with respect to the getting that whole chain completely working, rather than 'just' USB.

Agreed, but if the devs never get around to reporting a bug, what chance have the rest of us got?

I guess one of the problems about developing for a portable device is, when someone finds a bug, a lot of the time theyre not in a position to report it there and then, and it gets forgotten unless it's persistant.

The point is that no developers knew about it because no one ever bothered to mention it. This should have been fixed years ago, and would have been if anyone had bothered to report it.
