1.01.30a (for Clip v1) and 2.01.16a (for Clip v2) added to the first post.
How to find out if you have v1 or v2 Clip. (Man, the new startup logo is fugly... all jagged and amateurish looking. As if some intern whipped it up in MS Paint. )

The V2 firmware suggests SDRAM, which the V1 doesn't have. I'd love to see pictures of the insides if anyone has one and is willing to open it up.

Dgb52, if you read saratoga's post you will see, but it is not 100% since no one a v2 Clip yet.

Thanks for posting the firmware file here. I tried to upgrade my 2 clips to 1.01.30a with the Sansa update application but it only worked on one of them. The 2nd seemed like it upgraded, but didn't actually. It was a piece of cake to upgrade instead by just loading the .bin file to the player.
The only difference I think I notice with the new firmware is the player seems to start up and shut down a bit faster. Still has the same awesome sound quality! |

for me the startup time is way longer now but the stut down time seems to be faster. and i read that the libary update should work faster. this takes as same as much time as before the firmware update. |

Strange, I find boot time to be the same, which is acceptable to me. Not like the long e200 OF boot time

I just got an 8 gb clip and love it. I have an e260 4gb, which I also love, but the refresh time is forever with the micro in it. Anyway, the clip is great. My question: is it worth updating the firmware if the present one seems good. I have 2.01.13a and the upgrade is .16. Is there really that much difference? Thanks for your reply.

As a general matter, the answer is yes--the firmware just gets improved over time.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll give it a go using the sansa updater. I'm not too good understanding the "main root" thing.

Dave-- It's real easy/a snap. Simply drag and drop, or copy and paste, the firmware upgrade file into the top level on your Clip--when the Clip is in MSC mode, for example, that's the level that has the Music, Audiobooks, etc. folders (and the level that opens up when you double-click on the icon for your Clip on your computer). Much easier than using the often-buggy updater.

Thanks, Mikerman. It worked like a charm. Also thanks to all of you who help with the info and firmware for non-computer savvy people like me.

Do I need to do all updates one after another, or can I jump straight from 01.01.18 to 01.01.30? And since my firmware right now is 01.01.18f, I can just change the firmware filename to f right?
