Default battery info discrepancy?

I am using a 12 vdc car charger most of the time rather than the usb cable sansa supplied. And when I plug in the sansa while powered off it boots into rockbox so that is likely the source of my problem. What I am seeing is that the info screen will say there is 3 hours or more of battery life remaining but the system might power off due to low battery rather early. Anyway I have "just" started powering the sansa to OF before plugging into the 12vdc charger. Can someone point me to any documentation that might explain how the battery life information is updated and why it might make a difference which OS the sansa is booted into? thanks

Charging in Rockbox on the e200 series is still slow. Plus, the USB support is not there yet, too. If you want charging, you might be better off going into OF to charge it.

Slow? I thought it was still disabled entirely... or did that change recently?

Entirely disabled surely fits better.

I would say "not enabled" rather than "disabled" since it's not like we "disable" anything, we just don't have code in place to *do* anything in the first place for charging.

ok, as I mentioned I have started to power up the sansa into the OF before plugging it into the 12vdc cable for recharging. I am running rockbox 3.0 system -> rockbox info -> r19030-081106 currently showing battery: 93% 15h 30m to repeat my question, how does rockbox determine the state of the battery? I suppose it is possible that the battery info in rockbox is not reliable?

That battery readouts are based on battery benchmarks that people do. So we do not know what kind of battery life you will get tho.

If Rockbox doesn't charge at all, then why does it say 'charging' in the System info when I have it plugged into the charger?

I did this awhile back and it didn't look like it charged, so I just charged it in the OF.

But I'm just curious - if it doesn't charge, why does it say 'charging'?

(I have an e270 v1)

Because no one has bothered to change that.

I suppose then that if I changed some file in rockbox, instead of
showing 15 hrs of battery life, it could be modified to show 12 hrs
of battery life, which would likely be more accurate for my e260.

can anyone specify the file name?
this would be useful as the battery wears out.

thanks
