Well, depends on what you classify rock as. I guess if its the "Golden age" of rock'n'roll then yeah, but they dont really work too well for modern day rock imo. They are awesome at accoustic guitar music though. I used to have a set, but I gave them away right after I got my Audio Technica a900's as they worked out better for me (isolation, comfort, and sound were all better to my ears).
Grado are almost unheard of over here (Except with real enthusiats), because grado has such wierd international selling practises... Heck even www.headphone.com says that you just cant buy grados from them because Grado forbids it :P Theres no reason to buy an over priced, imported Grado in europe, when you can get just as good or even better cans from european manufacturers... |

I have both the SR60 and SR80. I hate the SR60, as the highs are sometimes very harsh on it. It is also bass deficient. The SR80 is much better than the SR60, having less harshness in the treble and more bass. I still wouldn't recommend the SR80 though, as the cord on both models is long, thick and heavy, the headphones are very open and leak plenty of sound, and the sound quality is imo not impressive at all. Both the SR60 and SR80 don't sound natural at all. An alternative you might want to try for portable use is the Sennheiser PX100. For not so portable use, the Sony V6(also sold as the 7506,AVOID the V600 as it is horrible!) or perhaps some closed Sennheiser models. These closed headphones might make your ears overheat in warm weather though.
Another choice might be canalphones. if you decide to demo the SR60 or SR80, do it for more than just a very few minutes. The artificial sound might wow you for a few minutes, but then you can get tired of it very quickly. Perhaps the higher models of Grados might be much better and sound more natural. I hate my SR60 though, and am not that impressed with my SR80. I found this page with reviews of the SR60 if you want some more opinions. http://www.headphonereviews.org/head...headphoneId=47 Last edited by JK98; 10-22-2008 at 02:17 PM. |

For me, definately not. I purchased a pair of PX100s and returned them the following week. To me they sound washed out and too laid back. Once returned, I immediately went back to my trusty SR60s.

I really like my SR60's, though I have to agree with many of the points JK98 makes. They are rather bright, and seriously bass deficient, but sound excellent with music that isn't already terribly bright. You'll find them lacking for bass heavy hip hop, but for JD and Radiohead, I really love them.
