Help A Few Questions Concerning the 4GB Clip

My son wants an MP3 player and I have been seriously considering the 4GB Clip for Christmas. Since this will be his very first MP3 player I have a few questions that I hope you can answer. I have done some research but I prefer owner/user personal insights.

1. Learning curve for a first time owner/user of an MP3 player: How difficult?

2. He has tons of music that at the moment he has burned to CDs and listens on a portable CD player. Is the software easy to navigate as well as transferring and placing into files/folders? I know he would prefer separating each album to easy access.

3. How is the battery life?

4. Are you pleased with both sound quality and sound volume?

Thanks.

1) In my opinion, it is easy to learn for new owners.
2) If you have the music all tagged, it would work OK. Drag and drop work great, too.
3) I have been getting about 12 to 14 hours. It just depends how much you use the display.
4) SQ is great with a flat EQ. I use volume level 4 or 5 without the Fiio and 1 with the Fiio. Plus I use IEMs tho.

1. MP3 players are very easy for many people to manage and use, it all depends on the person's patience to learn something that may be foreign to them.

2. With the clip I think you can either use drag and drop or you can use a program like Windows Media Player to manage your collection.

3. I can't answer this since I don't own one.

4. I have heard it is one of the best sounding player out there, I don't know from personal experience though.

1. Not difficult at all to learn using the player, the hardest part for him to learn is on the pc … ripping, properly tagging his music and organizing it. BTW, our 7 year old and 10 year old picked it up on first day.

2. His music cd’s will have to be ripped to mp3’s via software like WMP, MediaMonkey or other software and properly id3 tagged. Transferring is a breeze via msc mode drag & drop, it can’t get any easier. Or you could set it up mtp if you wish and sync with your music software.

3. 12 hours give or take

4. Sound quality is very good, through some great iem’s or headphones you’ll be impressed. BTW, the included earbuds aren’t bad for cheapo’s and they provide a nice range of sound.

FWIW it's a great little player, blows all the competition away in it's size & class ...

Thanks guys. He does know how to rip and use WMP but he'll have to learn to properly Tag and Organize.

Your answers have settled it for me. I have been looking at this for two weeks now and when I opened the inserts to my newspaper this morning Sears has the 4GB on sale for $50 starting Sunday so I'll jump on it.

Thanks again.

Route44, that's a good price for the 4gb clip, nice find. BTW, he might want to take a look at a free app that works great for tagging mp3tag.

Editing tags may be new to many people. When I bought my Fuze, it was my first mp3 player that navigated by tags. I have a great preference for navigating by folders than by tags. The Clip and the Fuze navigate only by tags.

JK98, most of the players that I have used has used tags. So it is not new to some people.

90% of the players on the market navigate by tag ... even though most don't know it.

Well I went ahead and pulled the trigger and purchased it this past Monday. Thanks for the heads-up on the Tags.

I must confess that I am one of those people still very ignorant on the workings of navigating files and play lists on an MP3 player. Need a PC? I can build you one but to navigate an MP3 player... I learn MUCH better if someone shows me but all I keep running into are iPod owners.

Thanks again for the help.
