"Item is missing or cannot be played"

I attempted to listen to some new music recently, only to find that the Gigabeat could not play the mp3 file, listing its reason as ""Item is missing or cannot be played".
I do not know much about the files beyond their mp3 format, and I have never seen this message displayed consistently when trying to access music (I have noticed it occasionally when flipping through music, but it was always temporary).
(Posts on the t400 forum are a little sparse but) Has anyone else encountered a problem similar to this? If so, I would greatly appreciate a solution or reason for this occurrence.
