Default NS-DV4G Questions

I have purchased an Insignia NS-DV4G and have been quite pleased with it so far. For basic functions it works very well with my Linux (FC 6) and Mac OSX systems.

There are two important functions I would like to learn how to do:

1) Create a audio file playlist.

2) Update the firmware (no need to yet, but would like to know for the future).

I have searched the forum and was not able to find anything defininitve for the systems that I have.

Any help would be appreciated. thx

Welcome to the forums! Glad you are enjoying the player.

Unfortunately, you need Windows Media Player to create playlists for it. The player uses .pla files. There are .m3u to .pla converters, but as far as I know, no one has had any success with those.

But, the next firmware version will add .m3u support. When that's released, you will then be able to use any program that will create .m3u lists (I'm sure there's a ton of them for linux).

To update the firmware from a linux/mac system, download the .rom file, and simply drop it onto the player. The player will load the firmware after you unplug it.

As of yet, Insignia doesn't officially release the .rom file itself. Instead, they release it in the form of a Windows installer. But I have extracted the .rom file, and it can be found here: http://www.mydatabus.com/public/ilo2...al/NS-DVxG.rom (this is version 1.105)

Would it be to much to ask for someone to post two samples of working .pla files?
Preferably with a different number of songs in each. Is it possible to
make a .pla file without referencing a .alb file?

That sounds great. I would think one working .m3u sample to be enough.
Should only have to worry about the path name format in the .m3u (text)

I was hoping for something like that. Should be no problem then.

I really like this MP3 player. I does pretty much everything I need it to do, but the one thing that I hate is that there is no fastforward or rewind capabilities when watching movies or videos. It's frustrating when you start to watch a movie and it starts over from the beginning when you turn the player off or listen to music.

Is there any plan to have this issue fixed in the next firmware update?

Forgive me for bumping such an old thread. I would like to echo the request for someone to post a working copy of each type of playlist. Do they have to reference the correct file location on the player, or does the player use only the filename from the playlist file?
