How are you providing power to your dock?
Are you using a USB port on your stereo? Or just usb lighter adaptor?
I used a lighter adaptor and it powers on fine. I don't have a deck with a USB port so I can't test that, but that would seem to me to be the only reason you would be starting a data connection.
I use Kugel's build as well and I've no problems with it, is the car adaptor mode on?

The car adapter mode... hmmm. I knew about it, I read about it but I didn't think about it, as my lighter adapter is powered on even when the car is turned completely off.

I'm connected through a lighter adapter, this is why I'd be inclined to say that the data connection should not be there in the first place. But it is connected to a deck. I should try the original cable and see what happens with the same lighter adapter. I'll report back.

The car adapter mode should not make any difference for the situation I'm describing. Once the player is off it should not make any difference, according to the manual.

The problem is that you modded your dock. I assume that due to this, there's voltage on data connections. That'd mean, the device thinks there's a connections established, even though there's no actual data transferred.

At the boot, the data connection check is not based upon transferred data, but on voltage.

Nope. My modding the dock was limited to cutting out blank space on the circuit board. I did not touch any circuit (apart from cutting away the LED one).

In fact, I just verified this. I have an extra Griffin dock (I bought two because I was gonna mod them... a spare it's always good ) and I taped the two central pins of the USB A connector, plugging the miniUSB in the dock.
And Rockbox started.
I took away the tape and OF started.

This on an untouched dock.

I suspect that other people's chargers simply do not provide voltage on the data connections while my lighter adapter does.

But now I have the solution ready and tomorrow I'll implement it in my car! Hooray!

Thanks to everybody for all the help, I really appreciated it.

I HIGHLY doubt that the the car lighter is causing this. Maybe the cable you are using.

I don't know what to tell you. Fact is, after taping the two central pins on the cable the behaviour is the desired one.
Sansa off, place in cradle, Sansa boots with your build. I'm a happy man!

Thanks again to everybody.
