Default Maximum memory card size

What is the maximum memory card size that the D2 can accommodate. Ive seen people say 8 GB but is it larger now because of a firmware update?
I am also on linux so a flash format program that works with linux would be nice.

16GB cards work fine. There only was one firmware version (x.53) where Cowon surprisingly "disabled" 16GB SD support. But on the newest x.54 firmwares and on the older x.51 ones they work.

I don't think there's an equivalent of the Panasonic formatter app on Linux - but you could probably try to run it in WINE?

I hear there are 32 GB cards now. Does anyone know if they will work?

Thanks -- Barbara

Personally, I wouldn't go above 16gb unless your going to put videos on it. The 32gb cards are supposed to be compatible, though with music and pictures there's a 3000 file limit. I'm wondering if the limit will rise with the inception of the 16gb model.

Firmware 2.57 was released today, and it upped the limit to 4000 files on the internal memory and 4000 files on an SD card (8000 in total).

That's the extended version, it's like a grind core opera.
