Default Advice for Mac User for possibly dead (power but nothing else) Sansa

On Thursday, my sansa dropped out of my pocket onto a carpeted floor and since then it appears to be dead, except the wheel does have power. It cannot be seen by XNJB on my mac or the Sansa software which I have on my work laptop (only use it if I want transfer video files - which is rare).
I have seen a number of threads re possible recovery mode (aimed at PC or linux users) but the lock/record button technique has failed to work.
Would I be wasting my time downloading any fixes which are aimed at PC users or do we have any mac/sansa experts on the forum who have sufficient knowledge to advise? (any unix based fixes ought to really work on a mac). I am reasonably competent when it comes to hardware to the level of stripping and repairing laptops but do not consider myself a pc engineer. I could download stuff to my ageing win98 pc if necessary.
As the sansa was bought in the States a year ago, I can forget warranty - reason I bought it against an ipod was their robustness but not quite robust enough.

Since you have a mac, you could download a linux live CD for your computer, and recover your sansa that way
Sansa View 16GB (DEAD)
Sony Walkman NWZ-S544 (DEAD has a mind of it's own and don't feel like fixing it!)
Zune HD 32GB (Retired)
Samsung Galaxy tab 2 7.0
Motorola Droid razr m

You could try the e200tool in Mac, but Linux would be the best way with the e200tool.
