Archos 605: can it play AVI encoded w/ DIVX or XVID?

I'm interested in purchasing Archos 605 but I'm wondering if it can play AVI files encoded with DIVX or XVID? Help will be very much appreciated

I know it can play divx but I never tried xvid although I herd it works.

Xvid works, in fact I'm quite sure they use Xvid decoder which also does DivX decoding. But that way they don't have to in formal agreement with DivX (you see the same from like Creative). Of course that's also why it's not advertised
