Default Rockbox WPS and WPS Tags...??

Ok....I was just on the Rockbox site reading up on how to get some album art on my v1 e260. A simple .bmp for an ebook I thought would have been a good first test?.

I'm sorta understanding the syntax of the tags but what the heck is WPS (While Playing Screen) anyway..??

The WPS tags..?.. are they files you create..??. And when you create them where do you put them so Rockbox can display the album art..??.

There must be an easier way of doing this?. Please let me know!

The While Playing Screen (WPS) is just what it sounds like. It's the screen your Sansa displays when you're looking at that pretty album art. Each theme has its own WPS... this is the point of themes, I guess.

There's no way around using the WPS tags in the .wps files, found (where else?) in the .wps subdirectory of your Sansa's .rockbox directory. But once you get the hang of applying them, you can customize any WPS more to your liking.

For example, lots of theme creators seem to like displaying the time in 24-hour format. Having never served in the military myself, I'm not quite sure why I'd want that. So changing the real-time clock tag to the one that displays the time "civilian style" is a real easy fix. You can even do it right on your Sansa using the text editor.

The WPS tags are found in the Rockbox Wiki here:

Have fun.

No problem... if you have more questions, come on back and I'll try to help. I'm no expert but I've figured some of this stuff out.

Help Question related to WPS

Major_works, I have a question about the WPS: I'm trying to use several versions of Kugel's Ulikeme theme, each with a different backdrop and corresponding modified template in the WPS folder. So what I've tried to do is to save the original CFG file under a different name, edit it so it points to a renamed WPS file, which points to a renamed folder. However, although the menu seems to work fine, it's when I play a song (WPS screen) where everything messes up. It reverts back to the default wps.

Which I don't get, since I edited the WPS in wordpad to use the renamed bmp template, and it's the correct size (changed a single layer in the included psd file). Well, hopefully I've been clear somewhat in this jumbled mess of a problem. Any ideas?
