I have the new Zune 80 and have not had any problems.
Others have reported problems with the Zune software reorganizing their music and album art. This can easily be avoided by unchecking the option to automatically retrieve info from the internet when you install it though.
The player itself is fine, no problems at all.

Same here - 1 80gb hidden behind several of the 4gb models at Walmart. Took 4 days of searching to find it. So far, I love the device and despise the software.

SQ is excellent.
Very clean, accurate, uncolored sound.
True to the music.

The "premium" in-ear phones w/ the 80gb didn't sound good at all - no bass and tinny / hollow vocal range. I'm using a $40 pair of in-ear Philips noise-cancelling phones now, and it sound quite good with those. Also, I just ripped my first CD w/ the software, and the sound from the software was fantastic. I'll listen to that CD on the Zune itself tomorrow.

Do you have to use Microsofts software to load music on the Zune?

Unfortunately, yes. It may take some time getting used to, but when you do learn how to use it the way you want it to, it's decent.

I just use a different program to correctly change the id3 tags, and just use the Zune software to sync/get podcasts.
