Default How do I know if I have a V1 or V2?

Hi,

I usually use a PC Desktop running XP SP2, but have just come into possession of a Mac G4 Powerbook, and want to be able to use my e280 with it. I have read various threads in this forum, but am confused about a few things...

1. How do I know if I have a V1 or V2 player?
2. In MSC mode will I be able to drag/drop files to/from the player and have it recognise them on the Mac?

My player has both MSC and MTP modes, and the firmware says it is 01.02.15E.

Thanks in advance...

1) You have a v1 by the firmware version.
2) Yes, but I have hear you might have to downgrade the firmware to v01.01.11.

Ooh eck! How do I go about downgrading the firmware? Is that hard to do?

It is the same way as upgrading the firmware, or you can do it via recovery mode.

Neither of which I know how to do! Is there a thread on this forum about either approach?

Before I do this - how dangerous is this process? Will downgrading my firmware have any noticeable effects on my player? i.e. is there a chance it will kill it?

If by "kill" you mean a chance of needing to use recovery mode, there's a slight chance if the firmware is corrupt. If by "kill" you mean brick your sansa, that isn't possible.

Overall, it's not a dangerous process, but you might miss a few bugfixes by downgrading.

Thanks for all the info/help so far. Is there still a chance my current firmware will work with OSX? If I try that before downgrading the firmware, it won't hurt my device will it? Sorry for all questions, this is all v.new to me.

It will not hurt the Sansa if you try with the version you have.
