Default Just got my new D2, have several questions...

Hi, so I've just received my 4GB black D2 and an ADATA 16GB SDHC card.

Could anyone direct me as to what, and in what order, I should do now?

1) Which version (firmware) is the most stable?

2) At what point can I safely insert the sdhc card into the player?

3) Is there any simple step by step guide for treating a new D2?
Should I let it charge over the night, then upgrade the firmware, then stick in the sdhc card and then just copy songs into it?

Thanks in advance!

Why not plug it into charge and read the manual. You can download it here.

1. I found 2.51 the most stable on my 4GB (not so much on the 8GB for some reason)

2. Any point, the only time you don't want the SD card inserted is during a firmware upgrade.

3. I'd charge it first, and you'd want to update the firmware before putting anything on the player's internal memory, since data on the player is deleted during an upgrade.

Thumbs up

^^

2.51 works just fine. I have the same combo as you (4 GB D2 + 16 GB A-data SDHC card). What they said.

Thanks a lot guys! Those were some fast and helpful replies

I'll do what you recommended once I get home.

Looking forward to be a part of this community, it seems great so far!

Oh, and I've got 2 more questions, if you have the time to spare:

1) Anything special I should know regarding OGG and FLAC files? Gonna use those quite a bit.

2) Is anyone working on a rockbox port for the D2? I really loved it on my Iriver H10

Thanks again!

The D2 doesn't read genre or track number from Ogg Vorbis files.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents in regards to firmware, I just got my D2 4GB 4 days ago, and it included the 2.51 firmware. Honestly, I had a ton of trouble with it right out of the box (lock ups, files not showing/renaming odd names, folders dissappearing, etc.). Once I upgraded to 2.54 everything has been absolutely perfect (i.e. stable, all files show up, nothing dissappears, works with the latest version of FLAC, etc.). Now maybe mine is some new hardware revision that works with 2.54, I don't know. All I know is 2.54 works great for me.

Oh, and the only thing special you need to know about FLAC...is it's awesome.

I use 2.54 f/w and I'm having no problems at all. IMO, all you need to do to make your d2 work fine is repair all your audio file tags. Once I upgraded them all to id3v2.3 everything works smooth.

That doesnt mean that the f/w shouldnt work stable with broken tags. It sure as hell should. Some ppl dnt use tags at all...

p.s.

[ All you need to do to upgrade your tags is dowload mp3tag ( http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ ), point to your music root directory, load all files, select them ALL ( Ctrl + A ) and click save. Its totally secure, it will convert all of your tags to id3v2.3. ]
