Hi everyone, it's my first (although I've been reading the site and forums for a couple of years).
Anyway, I just bought a sansa clip, and i'm a little disapponted with the sound quality, which was supposed to be one of its strength : SQ is actually pretty good overall, but I can hear some noise when nothing is playing, and even a little when the music is very quiet (in a few intros for exemple). This happens with my CX95, which are average headphones I think (16 ohms, 116dB), of course if I use my HD600, I don't hear any background noise anymore but I have to put the volume to the max to hear something :-P So, I was wondering if I was the only one to experience this, and if other players (even the supposedly good ones) are subject to this too. I'm pretty sure my old Rio Carbon didn't do that, but it's dead so I can't check. Thanx ^^ PS : I'm still very happy with my Sansa clip, just asking out of curiosity.

BlueScreenJunky, Welcome to abi >>
![]() Run back to where you bought it and exchange it! Don’t be disappointed, the clip has excellent SQ, you must have received a lemon ![]() I’ve tested mine with MylarOne XB, X3, cx300’s, HD650 straight up and through a WooAudio 6 amp and the only thing I hear is excellent SQ, in fact I’m very impressed with this small/cheap player … almost at par with my iAudio 7.

Exemplary sound out of mine, right up there with my iRiver iHP-140 (a good audiophile-type DAP). Time to exchange it ...

I experience no additional noise/hiss out of my Sansa Clip...
Not every headphone has good 'synergy' with ever DAP, so I'd try a different set of earspeakers. If that doesn't work, exchange it. Note: As far as microDAP sound quality, the Sansa Clip is right up there with the finest, my iRiver S10. |

That sounds like the problem is with your CX95s, and not the Clip, doesn't it? I'd think that more expensive headphones would be more likely to pick up background noise from the source, unless they have some kind of canceling ability aka Dolby.

Yeah I might try to change it, although it doesn't really bother me (95% of the time I listen to it in the train so it's not like I could hear the noise.).

Anyway, thanx for the input everyone =)

I mainly use it with low impedance iem’s and I still don’t get the noise you refer to. The amp & HD650’s was just testing different sources...
btw, did you upgrade the firmware?

Yeah, latest firmware here (1.01.18) . Oh, and I have the european non FM version, but I doubt that changes anything.

I don't get any background hiss on the Clip with sensitive 16 Ohm phones, not even on very loud volumes. Must be either these CX95 or some fault with your Clip?
Other players, like my Cowon D2 or X5 hiss quite a bit with the same 16 Ohm phones.
