Default Rockbox problems

i loaded the current build of Rockbox on my brothers E260 he got for christmas and now i can't put music on the way i usually do with my e250.
i usually shut it off and then plug it in to the cable. when i do that with his E260 it goes like it is supposed to unil it gets to the screen where it tells of the firmware and partition stuff, then it goes white, and then it fades to black. the black goes from the top to the bottom. not sure why it is not working. i just now realized that it is says refurb on the back. i would like to put a archived build of rockbox on but i cannot do that either. Any help at all would be appreciated!

when you turn it on, hold left to get back to the OF.

i just tried and it went black again. not sure why. I forgot to mention that i have to hold the power button for about 10 seconds in order to shut it off once it has gone black. it loads rockbox just fine when you start it up. no sure if i said that at first or not.

If i put it into recovery mode can i format it from there?
or is that a bad idea?

If you can't get to the OF, you need to put it into recovery mode.

DON'T FORMAT IT.

I don't know why everyone wants to screw around in recovery mode and mess their player up. When you're in recovery mode, the only thing you should do is copy the OF PP5022.mi4 file onto the 20MB partition and then restart the player. This uninstalls rockbox, and gives you a fresh starting point and you have USB access again.
