Charging F40 via USB?

I've read that you can charge the F40 by plugging it into a USB port, but I can't get mine to do that. I have rockbox on it, and the battery is completely drained, and when I plug it in and power it on I get rockbox's "recharge battery" message and the thing shuts off.

I've lost my charger, so it would be nice if I could get this to work (if it's actually possible). could it be that it needs enough power to turn on before it can then start USB charging?

To charge it with the USB hold down the Menu button and insert the USB cable. If its dead then plug in the USB for a few minutes then unplug and turn it on and then do the above.

In rockbox you have to enable this feature in the SETTINGS (as far as I know). It works with my F40

I think it is that way already you don't have to change any settings.
