The quality doesn't have to be perfect (I've been pretty happy with the quality I've experienced using the U2), but the review of said unit on this side made me worry, where the following statement is made: "The voice recorder has some problems. On recordings made with the internal microphone, there is an audible high-pitched whine in the background. It picks up voices well even in noisier environments, but the whine the D2 adds to the recordings is rather irritating."
Can't help here, since I haven't used this feature so far.

I figured it'd be a blast being able to watch anime series on this thing while on the bus and so forth, perhaps even in bed, but then I realized that the subtitles might be hard to read given such a small screen... Does anyone have any experience watching subtitled videoes, or in particular so-called fansubbed animes?
The screen isn't big, but you should have no problems reading subtitles. If you find the letters small, there are some programs that will let you resize and change the color of subtitles for more readability (I suppose you have the original "not subbed" video and the subtitle file). I haven't watched subtitled videos on my D2, but did that on my Zen Vision:M, which has a similar-sized screen, and I was able to read the subtitles with absolutely no problems.[/QUOTE]

I'm worried it might be too big, or that it may somehow end up being damaged, in particular the screen. Does anyone know how well the D2 can tolerate regular exposure to exercising?
Since this player uses the touchscreen for almost everything, you should have care not to crack it; otherwise it will be fine -- build quality is very good. Keep in mind, though, that the touchscreen isn't as easy to operate blindly as the tactile controls on your U2. Using a screen protector and some sort of case may help keeping it safe from harm.
