Well im not very good at DIY. Ill only ruin it. ill thing ill buy and stay with the original cord. just 3m is too long fro personal use with my zen so thats why i was checking about the HD202s

On the HD202, the cord is wound up around an oval piece with a clip on it so you can clip it on you belt.

does it have to be attatched to a belt or trousers etc or can you have it dangling down?? Can it be clipped onto anything?

It can be clipped to anything no too thick or you can leave it dangling like you want. It's about 1½" x 3", oval, 1" thick, made from plastic, Sennheiser logo on one side, clip on the other.

I use AKG K81DJ's for home use, but for gigs I refuse to use anything but my Sony MDR V7000's. The isolation is so excellent I bought 2 pairs.
