Help Newbie advice?

Continued dilemma from http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ad.php?t=18955 . . .

Since the above thread was sadly ignored, possibly as a result of being accidentally posted in the incorrect forum, I began delving into my options and narrowed them down to a list as thus:
  1. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...493&CatId=2381
  2. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...600&CatId=2381
  3. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...046&CatId=2381
  4. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...751&CatId=2381
  5. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...333&CatId=2381
  6. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...5386&CatId=390
  7. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...387&CatId=2381
I was quite taken by the seemingly much praised V-Moda, but sadly it does not seem to be available in my local area -- and internet purchase is not an option. I've checked out big name retailers, namely Best Buy and Future Shop, and they don't seem to have a very wide selection available. Sony Store is another option I suppose, but I just didn't get a very good first impression of their headphones (see original thread).

Hence, my choice came down to whatever is available at Tiger Direct. I am very much interested in noise isolation, but the effectiveness of the isolation is not a top priority. I think I would like it if it was enough to 'simmer down,' if you will, the big noise factors such as traffic or crowds, but not so great to the extent of being dangerous (as in, being unable to hear claxon for example).

Mainly, the two main things I require are those mentioned in the original thread: earbuds that are comfortable and are not prone to falling off during vigorous physical movements, and sound quality equivalent to or greater than that of iPod earphones. The major music genres I favour are classical and soundtracks, if that helps. As well, I'd really rather not spend upwards of $150 (CDN) on this purchase.

If you could recommend one from the above list or any alternatives available at Tiger Direct, your help would be greatly appreciated!

I own a pair of the cx300ís which I have really enjoyed, bought them off the net for about US $30.00. Only two things I donít like about them are the cable microphonics and the j cable. I have moved up to the CrossRoads MylarOne X3ís and now the XBís, which are my favorites at the moment (out of these 2, I would recommend the XB's, much nicer bass). In closing, it would be a good idea to read through this thread as well as taking a look at the Future Sonic Atrioís

I cant help too much as I don't use in-ear phones very often, but for these genres you will really want some phones that have an open and clear sound. To much bass or rolled off treble will kill these genres. Good luck in your search. You may want to head over to head-fi.org if you don't get the info you need from this post.

Thank you everyone, for your suggestions!

How does the JVC Marshmallow compare to the default iPod earphones? Also, are they good fit for the ears (i.e. do they not fall off easily)?

The CX300 seems to be widely acknowledged around the forum, but I'm sadly not sure that those other models mentioned are available in my area . . .

I think I'll probably end up choosing between the Marshmallow and the CX300, or possibly the Etymotic 6i (which is really quite tempting, but I need to check if Canadian Wal Marts carry them; however, I hear Altec iM616 is similar to it and that particular one seems to be available at Tiger Direct). I'm afraid I'm no good at telling each one's performance with regards to bass and treble, though . . . Also, how are these in terms of noise isolation?

I apologise for asking so many questions, haha!

the marshmallows wont fall out of your ear(unless yours are HUMONGOUS) and the sound quality is a HUGE improvement from the iPood stock earbuds but then again the cx300's are even better, but if you are somewhat likely to break them then the marshmallow cuz they so cheap man

Ah, haha, thank you for your recommendation.

Actually, I've called up various branches of Tiger Direct, Source, and Wal Mart regarding the availability of the JVC Marshmallows -- but it seems none of them are carrying them anymore (i.e. they used to have them but will no longer restock on these; one Source location in particular told me that they had some just until last week before just up and disappearing). Does anyone know the reason for this? Is there some sort of defect in the product?
