Insignia's new Pilot 8GB DAP is now available....

After browsing the recent Labor Day sales, I noticed that Best Buy has quietly released an impressive new DAP. This thing is feature packed with Bluetooth support, an SD Card slot, up to 8GB of Flash Memory, tactile controls, and a super slim form factor. Here's the link:

This could give Samsung's upcoming YP-T10 some serious competition if Insignia's Bluetooth support could be modified to include caller ID and headset features.

Some very interesting things:

1) Expansion is via SDHC! This should allow up to 32GB more flash to be added
2) Still has two headphone outputs - but now one of them is also a video output!
3) There is a separate "rating" button at the top edge.
4) The FM radio has RDS support - now "remembers" artist and track data from stations broadcasting RDS data. Not sure how this works when you "record" an FM radio station. This feature could be very interesting.
5) Design looks nice
6) Excellent price - $189.99 for 8GB model that has Bluetooth.

looks good, but to me it's not worth it unless it's solely for the more memory. The screen looks about the same size too. I'd still get the NS-DV

Well, it's official, Digitaldel has confirmed the Expansion is via SDHC.

It also comes with Bookmarks which was one of my most wanted requests for the NS-DV.

The rocker switches does a couple of things. 1) With Best Buy Digital Music store/WMP11 it allows you to rate the songs, slide left to reduce the number of stars, slide right to increase the number of stars. When you connect the player it automatically syncs the ratings back to BBDMS. If you use Channels on BBDMS it will automatically build more and more precise channels of music that you like using the ratings. 2) When pressed it brings up contextual menus depending on what function you are doing.

I'm not sure I'll use the Rating thingy but, it's great to have the contextual menus

My gf has one of the original ND-DV players and she loves it. Looking at these, they look very nice and have a ton of features. I'll definitely keep my eye on these. It'd be great to see a review here on abi. ;-)

They better get their prices more competitive on these new items.. Sandisk's new View is going to be $149 US for 8GB and $199 US for 16GB.. Comes in October!
