Everything about mine were genuine-except the fact that they lasted little more than a month.

my fault on starting another thread about fake cx300, but what I really meant was that I bought a cx300 from circuit city, and is there a chance that it might be fake?

Very unlikely getting a fake CX300 from a well known store. Fakes are usually sold on eBay, from Chinese sellers.

same with me, it was totally genuine, but it couldn't last more than 6 months. sound is totally unbalanced now. it happened with no obvious reason.

That's where Sennheiser's worldwide 2-year warranty comes in handy.

That seller even has the same pics as in this thread online... so I guess they're genuine... or it's a really elaborate double-counter-scam.

He's got some negative feedback, though - I'm too lazy to check if this is about fake CX300's - you gotta look for yourself.

I guess people cry "wolf", since it is well known that many fakes are around. Some buyers might be too quick to accuse someone of selling fake CX's nowadays.

I've also seen positive feedback for sellers of definitely fake CX's where the people thanked him for the "excellent sound quality"...

Too bad this seller has not got any pics of the input jack.

And I guess you also need to hope you get sent the ones shown and not some others in bubble wrap etc

Yes... you might want to contact Aardvark or CaptainOdegard here in the forums, both bought their CX's off the same eBay UK dealer, and they were genuine.

Yep, me too, he is genuine alright. I am still pleased with mine and they came from him

They should arrive inside of 48 hours.

Default Are these fake CX300s? How to open CX300s?

Hi,

I just purchased a set of CX300s from ebay. They arrived a few days ago in a sealed retail blister package - the type with printed graphics and plastic

The lengths of the wire, and grill match the originals that were stickied post; but, they do make the "popping" noise as I put them into my ear.

I have broken in the headphones. They sound good but not spectacular. I was hoping for better.

Do you think it is possible to have fake CX300s when the lengths and speaker grills match the originals?

If wanted to dig further, how do I open the CX300s without damaging them? I don't want to try anything that is irreversible in case I do have "real" CX300s.

I bought them from a seller in TX for $25 USD.

Thanks in advance

Ok just to recap

1 different length j type cable
2 right angled chrome plated plug
3 retail blister pack
4 metal mesh grill on nose of canal sits inside the lip of the canal
5 popping noise when they form a tight seal in the ear canal

Yep, these are all features of the real thing. The sound should be way better than stock ear buds and yet lacking compared to full sized quality cans such as Grado SR60 and the Sennheiser HD515.

The bass is fat and a bit woolly, a bit like a mid priced sub woofer, the top end is rolled off and lacking in sparkle and the mids, ie vocals are recessed in the mix. They should be good at blocking outside noise and in general give a warm, if bass lead, listenable sound with reasonable imaging but not too much in the way of absolute instrument placing or separation. These are not meant to be critical listening phones, but a half way house between crappy ear buds and more audiophile offerings.

Look at the threads started by dfkt for more insight

You might want to see this thread. Be warned - the descriptions are pretty graphic!
