Hi all,
Enzo has shown the deteails how to open the clix and U10: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archi...r-clix-u10.php Opening the U10 is surprisingly easy. Enzo wondered whether the clix board might be identical to the U10 2GB. The answer is: no. The 2GB model is almost identical to the 1GB and 512 MB models, I suppose. He had shown those boards: clix ![]() U10 (which memory version?) ![]() Here's mine, a U10 2GB from Europe with UMS: This looks identical. The memory on top of the clix is flash. But don't confuse this with the memory on top of the U10: that's just 256 MB of RAM. The flash is hidden on the back side, behind the battery. The big surprise: U10 is probably ready for 4 GB!? |

known components on the clix board:
# CPU: ARM Samsung SA58700X07 (e.g. ARM 552 / SAMSUNG / SA58700x07 / NG004A0Q) # Quartz: 12.000 MHz # Flash: NAND Flash 2 GB - Samsung K9NAG08U1M: 2.7-3.3 V, Mode: Dual nCD & Dual R/nB, 1st Generation, 48 pin TSOP1 (12 x 20 mm) might be replacable by 4 GB: K9NBG08U5M # Audio: Cirrus CS42L51 (e.g. 42L51C / BB0457) Low-Power Stereo CODEC with Headphone Amplifier |

known components on the U10 board:
# CPU: ARM Samsung SA5845 (e.g. SA58450X03 QA444283) # Flash: Samsung 2GB (in U10 2GB model), probably K9WAG08U1A This flash is available in 1GB configuration (K9K8G08U0A) and as dual chip flash with 2*1 GB, selected by chip enables (CE1, CE2). A 4GB version of the same chip family is available (K9NBG08U5M). U10 2GB shows an open place for another flash - 4GB of flash might be supported - or even 8 GB!? # RAM: SDRAM 256 MB - Samsung 446 K4S561632E-TL75 # Mux: LV4052 Dual Channel 4-Mux (e.g. LV4052 / AS756 / Un605 / 23C) as used in H10 |

As a side note: The clix board names 'V10'.
An interesting question might be: what's the actual board within the V10? |

While it may be fairly trivial to add another identical memory chip to the back of the U10 board, I'm thinking it would be a bit more difficult to replace the existing 2GB chip in the clix or U10 with a 4GB one and have everything just work....

there's a certain risk within - at least you should know whether the firmware would accept a wider memory range.
Maybe someone will just give it a try and let us know about ;-) |

I am totally going to resurrect this dead thread, because I am doing something very much the same. I am thinking about transporting an 8GB flash memory chip onto a Zen V board that originally had a 2GB chip.
Does anyone know anything about this? How is this done? What are the risks? Has anyone done it? |
