Default e270 only works when connected to pc, new battery installed

I'm at a bit of a loss with my e270.
I pulled it out of a drawer after a year or so of inactivity, then plugged it into my pc. It shows the Sandisk splash screen, then the connected screen.
I was able to access it through Windows and copied all of my files off it.
I left it on charge overnight, disconnected it from usb, then tried to turn it on but it wouldn't power up at all. So I replaced the battery with one I got from Ebay and charged it up but it still won't turn on when disconnected.

I'm thinking that it might be a bad battery connection, but I'm really not sure. Just wondering if there is anything else I should try with it before I pull it apart and attack the battery connections with a soldering iron.

Your old battery is probably dead. Li-ion batteries can suffer permanent damage if stored fully discharged for a long period of time, and I'm betting that's what happened with your old one. As for your new battery, is it an official battery, or third party?

The e200 series is quite old by now, and li-ion batteries start aging from when they're manufactured. So even a 'new' battery will have some wear on it.

The new battery is 3rd party. I didn't want to spend the extra for a genuine one as I wasn't sure if it was just a problem with the battery.
I'll test the battery out on my multimeter shortly (it needs a new battery too lol)

Strangely enough the new battery is dead on arrival. I cleaned the terminals on the old battery and the sansa, popped it back in and it now charges and works well!
Should have tried that a month ago before I ordered the new one lol

What if you give the new battery a charge?
