Default Releasing new players or updates soon?

Well it's been near a year now since Sony updated their main line of players, anybody heard rumors about a refresh in the next few months?

Nothing, the Z Series is the latest. But, is it a year old? I don't think so,...

The A series just came out last fall, and I think the Z is newer than that. But the S and E series, I don't know.

wow feels like it's been longer. Too bad there aren't any rumors going right now about what might be coming out...

A new A-series or Z-series would definitely be welcomed.

I doubt the mp3 player market is very important to them anymore.

Sony doesn't do updates.

Sony doesn't give a F^#k about consumers outside of Japan.

Sony will offer the same o same o in a different wrapper.

If Sony offers anything it will be in the fall for X-mas season likely.

If you own a Sony player that is anything but a E series be happy and live with it until it crapps out

All I need is another 8/16 GB player Sony is not going to give you anything you really want. They are still pissed at the world for stealing music via Mp3.

Great players but behind the times

Actually, Sony does care about one other market besides Japan, and that's the EU. They get 32 & 64 GB players, ..the rest of us can go to hell.

I don't find anything wrong with my E series Sonys. I drop music into them, they play reliably, done deal. As far as firmware updates I much prefer the Sony philosophy to sandisk.

If you get it right the first time you don't need to issue continuous updates. There may not be any added bells and whistles but what you have when you walk out the store works reliably and you know just what to expect. To my way of thinking that's better than waiting for some vaporware update to fix a bug that shouldn't exist in the first place.

I had one Sony for about a year, and I think in that time there was only one firmware update....and I don't even know what it was supposed to address, because the player worked just fine before and after. So Skip's got a point about getting it right the first time.

Like you, I've been very pleased with my current E-Series player and prefer it over the other players I have (Sony X-Series, Sansa Fuze, and Sansa Clip+). While the E-Series is a worthy continuation in the Walkman line, to me they added a number of features (on-the-go playlists, podcast support, and SensMe channels) that made the player better than the previous players.

Sorry all E series fans. Recently the E series have (DSEE, Clear Stereo/Bass, and other sound treatments) that were only available in the A series and sometimes S series. These older players are what I am refering to. The E series is a good player I won't argue with you on that. I really like the DSEE and Dynamic Enhancer features on the A series. The player really sings with these treatments.

I don't know about recent Z,A,or S series. My last Sony is a NWZ S639F player which replace a A-816 that got lost. Which I am using as much as my Clip+. I have completly given up on SGP as a headphone unit.

I did look at the new Sony players today but not enough to where I would buy one. I still have and HD-5 that works just fine.

It runs Android 4.0 ICS which is a step up from Gingerbread 3.2 and it supports FLAC for the first time ever in walkman history! . Btw the F series is offered in 16 and 32gb for the US. According to a few articles the F and E series will be available around August.

As for the SGP there have been a few articles floating around of a newer model of the SGP YP-GB1 in production . Which is equally as exciting imo

Just when I was considering buying an A series.

From what I hear, the button layout for the new S and E series isn't too great? And the F kind of looks okay, like a Z series with an improved external design, maybe.

I think I still would prefer the current A series.

Ah, sorry I guess I meant to say the way the buttons are built? The current E and S have that outline around the button, but I don't know if that has something to do with easier usage.
