Because the processor can handle it.

Then again I could imagine a full 1080p video looking gorgeous on a screen with that resolution still,yeah its outdated but it'll still look great anyways.

That "FullHD" video clip will, for all intents and purposes, be a stupidly large 800x480 pixel video file. The hardware screen can not magically increase it's resolution just because the software is capable higher resolution.

I suppose if it is capable of HDMI out you could theoretically throw up a 1920x1080 pixel picture onto an external display. Still, that is pretty damn useless. Many cell phones these days can throw a 1080p picture onto an external display.

This makes really worried about Cowon's future... They seem completely disconnected with reality...
Tacky UIs, average plastic, proprietary connectors.

I really don't know how long they can survive like this, BBE is sure attractive for the fans, but that's about it, they even lag behind Sony concerning capacity.

BBE just came out as an app for iOS... Cowon hardware is dead, the only thing they have going for them is a few hardware buttons you don't get on other players.

I have two reactions:
a.) LOLWUT? you are kidding right? 480x800 7" screen?!

b.) wow. it makes great devices like the J3 that much more impressive

But I wonder how popular Android is in Korea? That might be why Cowon didn't use it again in this and simply chose Windows CE once again. It will probably be alot more popular there than it would be here.

The operating system and connectivity aside, this still doesn't explain how they came up with the idea of using a 7" screen that has the same resolution as their 4.3" D3 and 5" V5... 1024x600 would be the minimum for 7" nowadays, if you look at what's currently available - and that's still below 720p resolution, considering the R7 can play 1080p.

Sometimes it seems Cowon buys the cheapest obsolete scrap parts (as seen in the screen of the C2, which is the same as the four year older D2) and tries to sell them for a premium. This doesn't go for all their players, of course - the S9, J3, and to a certain extent the D3 (not talking about RAM/CPU) as well have decent components.

Outdated simply means they're not up to today's standards. And why would you want a tablet without wifi when wifi itself is always optional to not use on a tablet with wifi?

Yeah, that one had me wondering... you can switch off the machine... but then, how do you switch it on if the screen is off?

If this is the only thing they bring out for the hols, I'll have to buy myself a D3.
