Default Budget aside, best sounding player.

Budget and all other things aside, what is the player with the best sound quality with a large capacity? Thanks!

I hear good things about the 2GB Sansa Clip+.

But if you're looking for overall good quality, I think the Cowon X7 might fit that description. 160 GB hard drive and the usual Cowon sound enhancements. I've never used one myself, but various members here seem to think it's pretty good.

All sound the same - it's the features & different sound and EQ enhancements that make a difference. List requirements and it's much easier to assist you.

Please define large capacity (flash memory, hard drive...) and best sounding for what (music on the move, quiet listening at home).

For capacity, most commercial search tools will allow you to filter by capacity, that should help you narrowing down results, so you can also do your homework first before asking people to sppend time answering.

How much storage do you want? Even a low priced player like the Clip+ can sound great.

Something currently in production?

From my experience:

OOP: Cowon X5L (Rockbox, modified to 240GB), iRiver iHP-550 (CD Player + MP3), Sony D-555 (CD-only)

In Production:
+1 for the Sansa simple and capable of 32GB or (64GB). Fabulous for the money -> regardless of budget!
Samsung Galaxy 5.0 w/Rockbox -- it's incredible (but the program is in early stages)

Ok, I've never even set eyes on a Cowon but the X7 looks pretty cool. I am already buying a sansa clip zip 4gb for exercise but I want something with a bigger memory, say 32gb and up. It would be great to have a large memory like the x7 with 160gb but I'm not sure if I should stick with a flash drive or not. It would be the one that I take with me if I say went to an island for a holiday (which I am doing soon) and I wanted the best sound quality I could get. I would be willing to buy an excellent set of headphones to go with it of course. It would be mainly for music but I guess some video wouldn't hurt.
