Default Looking for cheap but reliable player (not sansa) 1gb+ with resume/bookmark feature

Hi.

I listen to two things only; long podcasts, and small playlists i play while i am working out to pump myself up.

I only need around 1gb, but I need a resume feature like the sansa clip+, where it remembers where I am when i go away from the file or turn the player off and then come back at another time.

I don't want any Sansa player.

I want a player that is well known for not having problems, not breaking, not freezing, just playing without any faults or problems.

I'll pay as much as £30 (around 49usd and 33 euros).

Not sure why you state no Clip + but the origional Clip can still be found refurbished in 1 or 2 GBs.

Edit: forgot to mention that IMHO there isn't a player in that price range as good at the Clip, I have 3 refurbished Clip's and 2 of them are going on 3 years running great still ...

It's my decision. There are many other players.

OK let me change what I said. Nothing by Sansa (or Sandisk if that's more appropriate) at all. And I don't need as good as clip+ in terms of features, it can be worse in that respect (I just need that resume feature). But I want one that is reliable and won't break or stop working perfectly.

Only other two small players that I've used are inferior, the zen stone and the ipod shuffle, so no I can't name one that's better than the Clip ...

I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that the Clip+ has major problems but the reliability you're looking for is exactly how mine perform. I've worked my way though several off-brands that meet your price requirements and none of them have the Clip+ reliability and feature set as a simple music player. On most of them the podcast support was either spotty or nonexistent.

As a matter of curiosity, what makes you believe that a player exists that is known to never have had a problem? I have yet to find that magical player that's never had a recorded fault or problem. If you find one during your search please let me know.

What players other than sansa are in this price range with a resume/bookmarking feature?

Philips GoGear Spark (2GB), Sony W-Series Walkman, Sony NWZ-B135F Walkman and their still not in the same league as the Clip.

I had an Ipod 30gb since 2004 or 2005 and it's still working perfectly now (I gave it to my sister). I just think they are too expensive. I can't afford an Ipod nano. Last player I've used was a Sansa Clip+ it's now completely unusable since a couple of days and I've only had it for less than a year.

First the clip broke off inexplicably, it was annoying but I got used to not using it. Then the play/pause would sporadically not work, like it would just flash pause and then keep playing when I tried to pause it. Then podcasts started having problems like I'd have to create new folders for the resume feature to work. Now it has just stopped working except for the odd occasion. It is just constantly frozen. I have to hold down the power button to get it off. Sometimes it does not even turn on, and when it does it works for a little while then freezes again. The firmware is up to date. I've tried resetting and formatting and it is still the same.

And I'm not the only one. The amazon return period is long gone and the clip is broken off.

RMA it and save, their warranty is one year.

You've had a bad experience with one. Do the RMA, see how your second one is. I have two Clips and a Clip+. Had no problems.

Sorry but I have no experience with the current competition.

OK.

I am reading the RMA page right now

Quote:
1. Name
2. Email address (required for RMA approval)
3. Phone number
4. Ship to address (No P.O. boxes are accepted)
5. Product part number, color and capacity
6 Date of purchase (required for WARRANTY eligibility)
7. Place of purchase
8. Serial number of product
9. Proof of Purchase (may be required in certain cases)
All I have is the player, I can't find anything else. Is there a paper which I need in order to do this? The site says all you return is the Sansa Clip+ and no accessories but does this apply to any paper that came with it? And the fact that the clip is broken off doesn't affect the warranty?

Agreed.

I'm glad your persistent on this no matter how many times people say Clip.

I'd have to agree with WG on this one.

Walk Into your local kmart or Wal-Mart and your going to see a bunch of bullshit players.

Default Sansa Clip+ - RMA twice?

A number of months ago I got my sansa clip+ replaced by sandisk because of problems you can see in this thread http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63678

The player is broken again, this time the headphone jack. It plays only in the right ear unless i push the headphones in a certain direction, or squeeze the player. It also has a couple minor but not serious problems like the one where it occasionally keeps playing and pressing pause does nothing so i have to turn it off and on again. But the sound in only one ear is not bearable.

In the RMA page it says a new warranty expiration date which is one year more than it was before. Has anyone any experience with getting two RMAs for one player?

The RMA page says:
Quote:
1. Name
2. Email address (required for RMA approval)
3. Phone number
4. Ship to address (No P.O. boxes are accepted)
5. Product part number, color and capacity
6 Date of purchase (required for WARRANTY eligibility)

9. Proof of Purchase (may be required in certain cases)

I had the old e200 replaced twice with no issues but only had one RMA with one of the Clips we have. I just filled out the original info based on the receipt I had and within 9 days I had a new player.

Nice to know that I'm not the only member here who is sketchy about buying the Clip+ for the same reasons of reliability. I LOVE the Sansa Fuze, that barely ever gave anyone problems at all,but the Clip+ is another story.

Zero failures for me. The clip on a Clip+ did come off a few months ago but that's it. I got my first one a few months after they came out. Except for the shorter battery life it works the same as the day I got it.

Different users, different experiences. Because some have problems doesn't mean all will.

I'm more confident in my purchase of a player with a lower reports of problems than one with alot of reports from annoyed customers. I'm not saying all will have problems, but the Clip+ has more reports of dying in a short amount of time than the Fuze. I'd feel more confident paying the $80 for a Fuze instead of buying the Clip+ just because its the cheaper of the two.You might not have had any problems with yours, but tons of other people have.
