Default Clip+ powering on but *completely* inaccessible via interface or Windows explorer

Greetings - I have just purchased a Clip+ and am super stuck as to how to get myself and my player out of the fix we have gotten ourselves into. I would therefore be most greatful to receive some help from your kind selves!

To summarise: Clip+ powers on but does not progress beyond the splash/info screens on either Rockbox or OF. Am unable to view drive contents through player menus or Windows Explorer...

So, installed Rockbox, got working no problems. Could dual boot back to the OF. Added some additional music onto it and blammo - Power on normally and it hangs at either the Rockbox boot 3.0 screen OR brings up the Rockbox info screen where it says "read failed (image)". Try and boot to the OF (on + left)) and it hangs at the Sandisk flower before eventually turning off.

Off, then connected to the PC nothing happens for a minute or two then it says it's writing and connected. Hear the Windows USB connection noise. When I look for the Clip+ drives on Device Manager I can see them on there so it is indeed connected.

However, if I then browse to Computer explorer freezes. It either will not show any drive on my machine or (if i'm lucky after killing things off in Task Manager) will show the two Clip+ drives but I am unable to get the properties or access the internal drive. As soon as I disconnect it Computer pops up fine and the Clip+ tells me that there is "Not enough space for music db (please free 90mb)" or it "Refreshes" my media for a sec then turns off.

Things I have tried:
Holding down power button for 1min+ at a time
Holding down power button and left
Connecting it with the select button held

Is there any hope for my crippled player?
Will Sandisk reject any claim for replacement when they see Rockbox is installed on it?

I'm guessing I might have to cut my losses and buy a new one.

All suggestions gratefully received...

Aaaaanyway, tried the Clip+ on an XP machine and got the exact same problems. I figure the disk has gone particularly wonky as I see the following when I view Event Viewer: "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 during a paging operation." "The device G:\ (location (unknown)) is offline due to a user-mode driver crash. Windows will attempt to restart the device 5 more times. Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about this problem." Going to send it back to play.com with an explanatory note "Worked with Rockbox, failed when I dared to put music on it" and see if I get lucky. Fingers crossed...
