I had my Clip+ in my backpack a little over a week ago and it got rained on a bit. Unfortunately, it ended up in a little pool of standing water. To make matters worse, when I put it in my pocket, it turned itself on.
When I got home, I put it in a bag of rice to dry out, and I left it for about a week. Now that I've taken it out, it still hasn't shown any kind of display. It is sometimes recognized by my USB drive as an M200Plus, and I was able to format it and copy the OF over to it. It has retained those files, but it hasn't shown any other changes - still no display. I think I know the answer to this one (dead), but does anyone have any other ideas? I looked through a few threads using the search function, but in the ones that I can remember, plugging into the USB caused the display to come back on. The computer does recognize it at times, but it acts like it is installing a driver for the device each time I plug it in, and sometimes it fails and won't show the "M200Plus" in the file manager. The power button seems to reset it without disconnecting, causing the computer to attempt to recognize it again, so maybe it's more a case of the display? I'm still not sure it's loading the firmware, though. If I need to provide any more info/details, let me know, and thanks. |

If you've toasted the display, and nothing else, you could try getting it going with Rockbox's voice mode. As far as I'm aware if you install Rockbox and the voice files it'll work automatically - precisely so you can get it running without using the screen.
Major problem is that if the thing is on MTP or Auto mode, it might well not install the bootloader - as far as I know, you have to be set to MSC to install new firmware. Further complicating matters, the main menu remembers which item it was on when you switch it off. Still, if you can reset the Sansa firmware to defaults (which presumably you can by reinstalling it), and it starts from 'Music' (which I seem to remember it does), you should be able to change USB mode to MSC by pressing; up right up right up up up right up select Or, of course, if it's in Auto and you plug it into a Linux box (or any box running a Linux live CD) it should act as if it's in MSC mode. But I'll be frank with you, I suspect it's a gonner... ![]() [Edit - ah, but, thinking about it, you can't reset the firmware by installing it if it isn't in MSC mode... You're possibly in a pickle ]

Yeah the accidental power on is no doubt the nail in the coffin. I've brought back many cameras/daps/phones from the dead with the rice in a ziplock bag method, but sadly only if the individual didn't power the device on.
At least the clip+ is low cost!

Yep, it's still not showing any display. It's cool that Rockbox can (at least situationally) work without the display, but that would still be a dealbreaker for me.
That key sequence reminded me to try Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start, but it didn't really help. Should be invincible now, though - a little late. I still have a 2GB Clip v2, so it's not a total loss. I hadn't gotten the SD converter for my microSD card at the time, so it's not like there was a huge difference in the two (would have been in the next couple days, though).
