Default Wifi Speed Zune HD Vs. ITouch

Was with a buddy yesterday and we stumbled upon a wireless signal. He was able to connect to it with his touch but I could not with my Zune. Is the Itouch wifi chip stronger than the Zune's?

No. The WiFi antennas are equal The Zune HD just has extremely limited support for WiFi connections, because being able to use WiFi was not on their list of things to do before launch. Supposedly, they are working on a firmware update that should be released in November.

I'm really hoping this update includes the addition of ad-hoc connectivity. I enjoy surfing the net on my ZHD much more than I do on my phone.

Actually, it is possible that the wifi radio in one would be stronger than the other. At one of my work locations, I can get on an unsecured wifi router that is about 200-250 feet away using my phone, but not my PSP or Zune HD. The phone nor the router are N capable (since it was unsecured, I took a look inside).

I didn't test with the Touch, but my experience with Apple products is that they usually don't go cheap.

I'm not to sure. I have a verizon router set at wireless g and it kinda goes like this .

Longest range - DM3z laptop brand new - xbox 360 with wifi add on - wii - zune hd - ps3 - ipod touch 2g - psp - dsi - old desktop with a wireless b card - shortest range.

Those are all the devices i had to test with. I know about the desktop because we had to rearrange the room its in to get it as close to the router as possible.

I tend to find that the zune , ipod , psp and dsi have problems when your using a mixed signal and can go much further when its just a pure G network.

a router will only have a limited amount of total output power... when it's split between two protocols the overall range suffers.

the channels it uses also takes a lot into consideration... different materials absorb/reflect/transfer different frequencies differently. lol... just a tad wordy.

obviously wireless N is the best out right now... most likely because at such a high frequency in penetrates just about any material. the same thing happens with bass (low frequencies). ever notice how when someone has a sub cranked you can always hear it regardless of how many walls or objects are between you and the sub?

another thing to note is how omni directional some frequencies are... it's even hard for our ears to pinpoint sources of bass or really high (i.e., mosquito ringtones) sounds... it's because those sounds tend to not reflect or get absorbed in walls and objects.

My sister has a Ipod Touch 3gs 8gb and I have a Zune HD 16gb.

I did a test, we have a shatty wireless router that isn't supposed to even go through walls but it does.

And before firmware 4.3 on Zune HD it was significantly slower, after, its on par and even beats the itouch alot.

I also went to my grandpas cement apartment building, device came up with over 30 connections. Most secured so I can't get on, but one of the unsecured was a Tim Hortons which was quite far away, low signal but it worked, fairly fast.
