You're just going to have to wait with the rest of us. Only Creative knows if they have plans to release it as a retail product, and they aren't telling yet. Indications at this point don't look favorable.

I would imagine that you could sign up for such a feature on the Zii website.

I'm not familiar with Creative's product cycles, but does anyone know if they have a reasonably predictable cycle that would indicate if there is still time for them to announce a consumer version before Christmas? 'cause if there's no Zii coming, I'm semi-reluctantly off to get an iPod Touch.

Frankly If you're desperate for a device with WiFi and Bluetooth and apps, the Touch is the way to go right now. Skip the 8gb model as it's got their old processor in it. That leave a 32gb model for $299 and a 64gb model for $399. Look around though as many online stores have them for a little less, especially the 32gb model.

Except I'm not desperate! The recent Touch update wasn't great, so I'd be prepared to wait for a Zii. On paper the specs are obviously better, and I like the thought that there may be the option to switch to Android.
...I should also point out that (as I'm in Europe) I'd pay €279 (US$405) for the 32Gb Touch. Or pay US$399 for a 32Gb Zii Egg....tempting! (I know - not suitable for consumers, but thats half the fun!) Last edited by Quello Serio; 10-05-2009 at 10:05 AM. Reason: Additional comment |

OK, then prepare to wait. Creative never promised a retail version. You might be waiting forever. Or spend $399 and join their developer's group to get the 32gb Zii Egg with only a fraction of it's potential enabled so far.

At least wait for android to arrive on the Zii Egg.

I think Creative would be missing out if they don't release a consumer version. On paper it has great potential and could really put Creative back on the map if they got it right.

I agree, this device would blow other products out of the water! But we'll have to wait and see

I sent Zii an email and this is what i got back
Thank you for showing your interest in Zii. Below are the details of your feedback. Case No.: G000000160 Category: Zii EGG product information Problem Description: Dear Zii, I am wondering if there will be any significant difference between the consumer and developer edition of the Zii egg. I am asking so i Know if i should wait for the consumer or just buy the developer edition Comment/Suggested Solution: Currently we are only offering developer kit intended for developers and it is not for end-consumer use. To learn more about Zii EGG and its exciting media-rich capabilities, please visit the following websites: http://www.zii.com and http://www.ziilabs.com Please note: This e-mail was sent from an address that cannot accept incoming e-mail. Thanks for posting their response. I suppose I don't mind waiting for someone to put it out. My D2 is fine, I just want a new toy after using it for 2 years.

So, is the Egg dead? I regrettably lost mine when I took it with my on a trip overseas so I was waiting on a commercial version. But they seem to be lagging well behind their roadmap at this point and they haven't updated it.
They did show off those speakers with the Zii dock though so... |

Hmmm, this sucks. The Zii EGG was definitely a device I'd be willing to get behind because it has all the favorable media support, updatable OS, likelyhood of more programs/games coming out for it...Like an open OS iTouch. Hate to see such a good device go down the drain. Come on ABI! Put some more up on the front page about this so it gets more support or something!

C'mon now there has to be some sort of plan for this thing to come out for consumers does anyone have any idea if it will even be available in 2010?

Yeah I'm waiting until 2011 and if they don't release it by then well I guess I'm done with the Zii, mostly because I'm tired of them not talking at all about it and if i hear the phrase "media-rich applications and processing" I'll probably scream...
