Ech, our strange European ways often do confuse the rest of the world. Isn't the first time its happened and wont be the last.
I think its a fair decisions to let a dying man out of prison. I dont really get the fascination on this story, well other then news companies trying their best to make us all feel a bit less safe. Seems like terror makes the world go round these days. Last edited by Jack4L; 08-22-2009 at 06:29 PM. |

I think the bastard should rot and die in jail, cause you or I wouldn't get special treatment.

I don't think this guy had anything to do with it, so releasing him was the right decision. That only leads to bigger questions about the trial, the role of the UK Government etc.

wtf is wrong with compassion these days, just cos someone spits in your face doesn't mean you have to sink to their level

I'm with Dreamingthelife, wheres the compassion these days? Nobody feels pity or compassion towards anyone anymore, its all about themselves. People get too emotional way too easily, people need to start realizing their own potential when it comes to extreme hate or love because that stuff will blind you and make you do whatever you personally feel is justified. If the problem is that you cant even trust what you hear as the truth, i.e. that the guy was released because he was deathly ill (Which btw, would mean you would have to pay to keep him alive in prison) then you have A LOT of other more serious problems to be more upset about before you go getting all rilled up about this little bit of news. |

Sorry, but I detest terrorists in all forms. Where was the compassion w/what was done? Do you see compassion when defenseless women & children were killed? I helped rebuild the train tracks under the World Trade Center, after the Sept. 11, 2001 plane ATTACKS. Funny, where was the compassion then?
I hate pacifists,............. ![]() Edit: Cleaned it up slightly.

You read too much into my statement. I did not pass judgment in this case. You are absolutely correct that I don't have enough facts to come to a conclusion as to guilt or innocence in this case. I spoke instead to the "spits in YOUR face" (my capitals) analogy that was presented.
Please notice that I stated that would do what was needed "up to and including" taking away their ability to spit forever. That might be a polite request that they not spit on me again. That might be walking or even running away. Unfortunately it may also include breaking their spitting equipment. Life usually offers you a range of options between those extremes. I learned on the schoolyard that if you are heated up and emotional you run too great a chance of missing an opportunity to defuse a situation without violence. Most often if you make it clear that spitting will bring about severe consequences people keep their saliva to themselves rather than using you as a spittoon. I reserve my compassion for those who put themselves in position to receive it. An unfortunate person who requests some spare change qualifies. If they attempt to take that same change by force they don't. Someone who is spitting on me does not qualify. |

I in no way would boycott Scotland, they're being kind to someone. I can understand that. I've just had to deal w/personal issues caused by terrorism, as well as the aftermath that follows. I feel for all those that have had to deal w/this for years - but my tolerance is quite low after my experience.
I want everyone to know my rant is in no way directed towards any of you, it's just how I feel after seeing so much death. I also feel sorry for all the Muslims in the Middle East, as they're being abused by all sides in all of this. I want peace, but not at any cost. And, if you've committed a terroristic act, you need to pay. That's my opinion. I feel civilians should not be targeted, and I will not forgive murderers.

Well said.
Sometimes we can lose track of the ones who are most deserving of compassion in these times. Family and friends of the victims need to be at the top of that list. Those that deal with the aftermath of these terrible acts are among the victims too. Your healing comes with statements like that one. Heal Brother, Stay Strong, Be Blessed. |

This guy was totally innocent anyway- the Libyans just offered him up as a means of getting back into the international fold.
The Iranians did Lockerbie- there was absolutely no way prosecutors wanted this guy's appeal to be heard EVER. So they cut a deal and let him out. The fact of his dying is immaterial- compassion is just an expedient. They certainly would be rejoicing when he got cancer. Last edited by Dreamnine; 08-30-2009 at 12:47 PM. |

waring asshole like people don't become better people if you smack them up side the head to teach them a lesson, they just go home and take their anger out on their significant other, they become more ragefull and are more likely to pass that trait onto others, this works from micro to macro
compasson is surely hard to swallow when you live in a fear bassed society, but I think it's still worth looking into |
