Just got my X Series-not without some problems

I've just got a new 32gb X series as my old Toshiba Gigabeat's USB conection is no longer working.

I like many aspects of the new Sony, but the major draw back for me is that it seems unable to power my car's FM transmitter. The Toshiba and my Sony minidisc are both nice and clear through my Cygnett Groove Ride transmitter but the new X seriies is barely audible (even with the Sony volume at max and all effects and n/c turned off).

Any ideas folks?

Sorry no idea, but what are your thoughts on sound quality and wifi? I'm considering the 16gb

Sound quality is good but not a quantum leap better than my old Toshiba Gigabeat. The Wifi is clonky unless you use a preloaded page although the You-Tube function works very well.

Do you think you can RMAA it for us with maybe a 16ohm or more load?

How's the browser? Any chance you can write a little review of just that feature? I'd also love to see some screenshots of the walkman with the browser open on a web page or two. Anything that resembles multitouch on it?

I would not buy an X-sreries for its browser function. Its both difficult to type in a web address and difficult to read the resulting page and navigate around.

A few pages which are dedicated to this type of browser like the Times Mobile addition are OK, and the You-Tube function is great, but otherwise its a waste of what could have been a really useful function. This is primarily a music player (though the OLED screen is lovely) and not really an Ipod-touch multi entertainment system rival.

Drag and drop works just fine with the X series, it also works well with Windows Media Player 11 if you use that.

since it does drag an drop, does it have an msc mode? i have a pioneer car stereo which has a usb slot on the front and it only plays msc devices. i would like to hook up the sony to it and be able to get tag info on the touchscreen of my stereo. thanks!

No MSC mode. However, there is an odd setting i dont understand yet. There is a USB mode option that says "if it wont connect to you compter use this mode". it only will be activated till you press the home button. Im thinking this may force it to MSC mode momentarily. but when i connect it to my computer it just does MTP and when i try to connect to my head unit in my car it only does MTP... dunno... anyone else have expereince with this?

So far my optinion is the X-1000 is better than. Also if you buy it you dont need new headphones. the supplied headphones are pretty amazing.... best out of the box headphones i have heard.

Wow you tried the X series already Enzo?? Im jealous lol.... is the X1050 really that good in SQ dept?? hows it compare to the s9??..

It's the same MSC revert-to-default that the Sony S630/730 series players also have. Sony doesn't officially advertise this fact, but in truth the S630/730 series work perfectly on Mac and Linux machines under MSC mode, and in fact, you can even get it to work that way with Windows as follows:

Go to the device manager and change the way the device is recognized, i.e. change which drivers it uses to the default Windows UMS (Plug & Play) ones. Nothing much to it. Remove the MTP driver for the Walkman device in the device manager and it'll automatically use the UMS one.

Even the S630 review here on ABiP got that wrong and claimed the device was MTP only, but users commented to the contrary (I was one of them, until Schipol Airport security broke my S639's screen...):
