This is the new V2 clip, it has different packaging and a a new logo on the back of the player. Battery life specs are the same as is everything else, except the OLED seems a bit brighter and the plastic seems a bit better quality.

Does v2 do anything different than v1?

I think maybe it has the usual stuff, new software, improved hardware, and new design.

The important difference between the v1 and v2 seems to be that the v2 might have SRAM, and might be similar to the Fuze's hardware - meaning it might be easier to port Rockbox over.
The firmware size difference - 5MB for the v1, 15MB(!) for the v2 - certainly is interesting enough already, considering there are no additional features on the v2.

From some use of the new V2 I have some very slight difference, mainly the build quality seems a little better and the front panel seems a little more scratch resistant. Sound quality using identical firmware revisions on a V1 and V2 yields the same results in audio quality. FLAC support seems more robust on the V2 hardware, as in it starts faster...
Headphones are built like crap on the new V2 hardware, not an issue for me, but i tried them out and at the point of disconnection, the plastic that covers the plug came off. |

i just bought one today, and i go check the firmware and it's still version 1. Darn it. And it was in the exact same box as the photos in the post. And even the logo on the back and everything..
I am gonna have to see if i can exchange it. I am sure there is a version 2 cuz it has some sort of improvements |

Picked up an 8gb at Walmart for $70. I love it!! I have an e260 (also love) but the refresh rate is slow with the micro in it. The clip is so fast. I have about 4gb of music and am now getting into audiobooks. Suffolk Web has freebees and now I listen to books while I'm at the gym. It makes the time just zip by. Since I hardly use the video on my e260 I have to say the cilp is a better music player. The EQ is better and the sound is richer. Don't even need a case, just a plastic protector on the display. Great!
