Confused About Firmware!

Hi Everyone,
I just got my P2, and I'm getting comfortable with its functions. I went into the System area, and I looked at the current firmware.

Here's what it says:
Firmware Version: BB 2.15
Released Date: 2008/01/22

I keep reading about version 5.08. Am I supposed to download this for my player?

You don't HAVE to, but upgrading does add some nice features. More information on upgrading the firmware and/or changing the region can be found here.

Be warned, however before you change your region. Since you bought the player at Best Buy, (the BB in the firmware region), you WILL lose the ability to play any tracks purchased from the Digital Music Store if the region is changed.

Thanks for the help! I got the downloads to work from the Samsung site. It's a little confusing at first.

I downloaded the latest firmware, and it installed great!

OK, then I tried to install the GUI update. I unzipped it, and got a list of files with a "UCI" extension.

Two questions:
1. What are these files?
2. Where am I supposed to copy them? I put them in "My Pack/UCI" on the P2, and when I restarted it said the "library" was updated. But I didn't see the new files anywhere on the player.

Please be patient with me -- I just bought the player today!

welcome to the world of p2 haha
anyways...
1. they are user customized interfaces for your p2... basically customized menus for your p2
2. look under settings>menu style... you can change to whichever one you prefer

Sounds interesting. Did I put them in the right place? They don't show up when I go to Settings/Menu Style.

i got my yppb2ab in korea few days ago.
and i just got home and looked at the firmware
its

KR 1.02. and im trying to update firmwares and stuff
its also dmb which i found out was useless in US

so is there anyway to update firmware for KR 1.02
i looked at other posts and they were like BB or V. 1.15 or 1.20 and i hav neither
and i also tried to change regions/mode..anyone help?

you just answered your own question. What you have is P2 DMB, which essentially is a totally different player. Unfortunately, new firmware for your model was pulled from the yepp website. you can always check it here >>> www.yepp.co.kr (just follow the links in English)

i think updating firmware is the same for every region, isnt it?
all you have to do is download the firmware you want, extract it, and put the two files in the root folder of the p2. After, just turn it back on when it shuts off, and it should be updated.

you can download it but its not mandatory, it will just give your p2 more features and keep it updated.
