Tagged files showing as untagged

Hellow guys.

I'm running rockbox (kugel branch) on my sansa e260 and in ny database, some files are shown as untagged while they are tagged. Is there anyway to resolve it?

Mp3tag show them as ID3v2.4, don't know if that helps.

Use ID3v2.3 tags whenever possible - ID3v2.4 isn't really an official "standard".

Both ID3v2.4 and ID3v2.3 are informal standards. Both are documented at ID3.org. Saying "ID3v2.4 isn't really an official standard" is erroneous. Neither is really official by anyone, and they're both equally unofficial. 2.4 just hasn't picked up as much popularity. 2.3 came first, and 2.4 changed a couple things people who were set in their ways didn't like. Meanwhile 2.4 offers some flexibility 2.3 lacks, and is actually quite nice for a few things.

Rockbox supports both. If you had problems with 2.4 tags and rewrote them as 2.3, it was probably not the fact that you changed to 2.3 that fixed it but either a problem your program had with writing 2.4 tags initially (a bug) or simply bad tags that rewriting resolved.

Oh brother, I need to choose my words very wisely around here... sefk, use 2.3 because it's the most popular version and the most widely accepted, and the one where it's very unlikely you encounter any issues with. Especially if you move from Rockbox to another player that won't read 2.4 tags it'll save you lots of work retagging all your files.

While there are legacy and future standards for ID3 tags, the most popular version implemented today is ID3 version 2.3. A follow on version, 2.4, is documented on this website but has not achieved popular status due to some disagreements on some of the revisions and the tremendous inertia present in the software and hardware marketplace. - http://id3.org/

Just be aware using 2.3 that some features may not be available. I believe most notable are the sort order tags which weren't added until 2.4. As well, RVA2 is used for replaygain instead of the TXXX tag, which isn't explicitly designed for this purpose. But as dfkt has said, 2.3 has much more software compatibility.

Of course, if you find yourself wanting the benefits of 2.4, you could always contact the authors of your preferred software and remind them they're out of date.
