Wink mmhmm, Suggest me a HDD player...

My Sansa e270 has played a good game so far, but now I want something a little more serious to go along with it.

here are my needs:

-Audio quality: This is first priority.
-Audio formats: Standard formats and some lossless too.
-Space: 30GB should be pretty fine.
-Battery life: I don't care about having to charge it every 2 other days.
-Features: Video, FM, Voice and Line-in recording would come in handy. It must have a screen.
-Size: I really prefer it pocketable (if possible).
-Build quality: no dust under the screen (I really hate that).

Should any known player meet some or most of the above needs, please suggest it to me. Thanks.

the iAudio X5L is a little bulkier than the iAudio X5 to increase battery life. is that bulkiness big enough to trash pocketability (is this a word? LOL)?

about the ZV:M, does it really have high quality audio? it looks better and have a better screen than X5, but X5 is really known for it's audio quality, so does it deliver too?

iRiver iHP140: I dunno, I'm not feeling it...

right now, my preference is to X5, but that could change. thanks, and keep suggestions coming please.

I use the X5L in my jacket's pocket, but not in my trousers. It's pocketable enough, IMO. The X5L isn't much thicker than the Zune, for example - only 2 millimeters, or so.

The ZV:M certainly is one of the better sounding players, but the X5 still sounds better. More importantly, the X5 has the best audio enhancements in any HDD player, the BBE/JetEffects. No other player comes close in high-quality bass reproduction. Also instrument separation and clarity seems better in the X5 than in the ZV:M. The X5 is very linear, down to ~20Hz.

Video quality on the ZV:M is lightyears ahead of the X5 - if video is a main selling point for you, get the ZV:M.

The iRiver H140 was an excellent player, the only one with digital output. But it's not being manufactured anymore, unfortunately. And the battery sucks, AFAIK - but can be exchanged for a longer lasting one.

Creative zen vision m is amazing. From what you want, you have 3 options...
1. If audio quality is your main concern, then IAudio X5.
2. If pocketabiliy and no dust underscreen, solid build, then Video Ipod.
3. If all around awesome, then creative Zen Vision M.

The gigabeat has bad battery life and the zune doesn't fit well in your pocket. Those are the 5 current 30 gig players.

I'd recommend either the Creative ZVM or the iAudio X5/X5L

I have the ZVM and love it, but get the X5.

Unless you are going to watch a ton of video, it is the best choice.

UMS --- The ZVM use's MTP (**This is the big one**)

I think this is the #1 thing you should look for in a new player.

I have got to get one before they are gone!!!!!

OK, the ZV:M got my attention. since everyone says the sound Q is very good, I have just a few questions about it:

-does it support more audio codecs than the provided out of the box with current firmwares? or still just MP3, WMA and WAV?
-Does some colors scratch easier than others?
-can they fit inside jean's pocket?
-besides the scratches, does it feel durable?

No, it doesn't support any codecs besides MP3/WMA/WAV.
They all scratch like hell.
People use it in trouser's pockets, too. But any HDD player is a bit big for that, IMO.
It feels rather sturdy, otherwise.

The X5 is about 20$ more than th ZVM, but you get a power adapter, audio cable and a usb host cable that doesn't come with the ZVM.

you can get the Zen VIsion M for about 200 bucks in a lot of online stores, you cant with the X5L. they do scratch pretty bad but the Black is the only one that shows them very well, nothing bad just add a VERY cheap BSE (best skin ever) and it stays looking new for quite a while., gorgoeus dap. i use mine with Tight pants and its really not noticeable, VERY durable in terms of built quality ive dropped it and it still works flawlessly.
the Screen makes up for anything. i find that music sounds great at 256 kbps lame mp3. fab. I have the white. it looks REAlly nice and its very easy to load content onto.

ok, ZV:M got me! I've read all over the net that the X5 has better audio quality, but ZVM's all-round features seem pretty convincing for me. I've read quite a lot of reviews and all of them suggest it is an excellent player. right now I'm heading to amazon.com 'cause they have the best price online (199 USD, nice!) and order one for me.

I'm also ordering:

- 1 "Best Skins Ever" full body cover to protect it from scratches all over.
- a Melrose leather case to carry it attached to my belt whenever I feel like it.
-the stock Creative video cable.

Thank you all guys for the suggestions! very much appreciated, but any final words are still welcomed.

BTW. it's gonna be a white ZVM! I'm too used to the sansa's black that I wanted something different.

White is a lot harder to scratch - and remember to drop by the zvm forum to tell us how everything went
