Currently as I'm far away from home. I find my UNLOCKED Nokia E71 with built-in GPS sat-nav preloaded with maps of HK and China to be indispensable. Email and internet tethering is great as well.

That's generally the advice I give. If a computer is running Vista OK, just leave it. Most people will be getting 7 when they buy a new computer, rather than upgrading a Vista PC.

When travelling it's OS X with a MBP mostly or sometimes Ubuntu on a Acer Netbook when I really have to cut down on weight.
