I can do everything you mentioned already with Rockbox installed on my v1 Fuze. What I mean is not having to use the official firmware at all. USB support would allow charging, updating Rockbox etc....

I've seen this happen to people who have drained their players battery. This may not have happened to you but the possible solution is the same. If you can get a USB wall charger plug your player...
