Just remove the 2 screws on the back. The battery of the 818 is "glued" inside of the player so I don't think it will be very easy to remove. But still, I am sure the battery CAN be removed/replaced....

Yeah the volume is great. I was afraid that the max volume would be too low but it wasn't the case. It also handles my ex85 headphones with a great volume and a crisp sound.
